How Dermal Fillers Can Be Used to Treat Smile Lines

As we age, our nasolabial folds become more prominent. These are the distinctive lines that curve from around the edges of your nose down to the corners of your mouth. Over the years facial expressions such as laughing or smiling can lead to these lines developing more. Other factors such as sun exposure and smoking can make these lines develop faster. One way to combat signs of aging is the use of dermal fillers. The best path to figuring out which treatment is best is to understand the root causes of smile lines. Contrary to popular belief, Botox isn’t typically used to treat smile lines. Dermal fillers are usually used for the lower half of the face whereas Botox is usually used for the areas above the midline of the face, like eyes. When dermal fillers are properly injected, it can replenish lost volume in the lower and mid-face or directly within the nasolabial folds, thus mitigating the appearance of smile lines and restoring a smoother, youthful contour. However, the site of injection and the number of syringes for filler varies from client to client. Interestingly enough, not only does dermal fillers replenish lost volume but they also stimulate collagen production.

If you feel as though dermal fillers could improve your smile lines, it is best to book a consultation. A consultation is best practice to discuss your aesthetic goals and understand the process in depth. Usually, the procedure only takes around 15 minutes, give or take. Your injector will apply numbing cream on the site of injection. The results tend to be immediate, but when the swelling goes down the filler won’t appear to be as prominent. The outcome will last around one to two years. The longevity of dermal filler is must longer than most treatments.
