The Diverse Benefits of Botox
Botox is widely known for its ability to reverse the clock and help people look more refreshed and youthful. Some of the cosmetic treatments that it’s used for are diminishing deep frown lines between the eyes, wrinkles or “crow’s feet” around the eyes, or lines around the mouth.
Although Botox is mostly known for being used in cosmetic treatments, it is also used to treat a plethora of medical conditions as well. Since 1980, this chemical has been safely used to treat conditions such as uncontrolled blinking, muscle spasms, and even excessive sweating. In 2002, Botox was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a cosmetic treatment to correct visible signs of aging. Literally thousands of people receive these treatments each day. In our practice, this treatment is in high demand by our patients who wish to look and feel refreshed and more confident.
Normally, you will notice the effects of the treatment within a few days. You’ll see visible improvement after two weeks. By then, your muscles will be dormant, and as your skin softens, your wrinkles and lines become less visible. Your face will have a firmer, more youthful, pleasing appearance. Your expression will be relaxed and unworried, without deep lines or wrinkles. You’ll be able to lift your eyebrows normally and blink without problems.
Few, if any, patients, have had any side effects from treatment other than the benefits of rejuvenated skin. You may have slight, temporary bruising that will resolve within a few days. In rare cases, there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry, depending upon the injection sites. Occasionally, a patient will report headaches after treatment. If you have any reactions, call our office immediately. We will see you for follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
